本書は，英国技術索引（BTI）に関する英文書誌であり，収録文献は１９５８年から現在に至る約３２０件で，研究論文や報告書のほか，書評，レター，ニュース記事などを網羅している。最大の特徴は，すべての文献項目が正確な書誌データと詳細な英文抄録で構成されていること及び項目が分類順に編成されていることである。分類順編成を項目間の相互参照，著者索引，言語索引が補足している。巻末の補遺は，BTI の初代編集長であり，索引システムの考案者であるエリック・コーツ（Eric James Coates）の著作を年代順にリストしている。BTI は科学技術における主題索引の「傑作」と目され，コーツは「主題索引の天才」の異名をとる。BTI の本格的研究に資する世界に先駆けたツールである。
